Support for children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities

Some children have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).

This could mean they need extra support with their learning.  

Many children with SEND can be supported in mainstream school. Some children with SEND may require a Special School. This will depend on the level of their needs.

Some children may need an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
An EHCP explains the support your child is entitled to and will follow your child throughout their education.

What can we help you with?

If you think your child has SEND, start by talking to your child’s school.
They can discuss your concerns and signpost you to right support.

Sheffield City Council also provides guidance. There are several teams that can help with education and social care.
