Sheffield has many interesting places where you can learn, shop, or enjoy cultural activities. Many attractions are free or low-cost.

The Millennium Gallery is a free art and design gallery in the city centre. You can see:

  • Metalwork from Sheffield

  • Art and design exhibitions

  • Special events

The gallery's changing exhibition programme showcases the best in national and international art and design alongside the region’s remarkable creative talents. You’ll also find collection displays celebrating Sheffield’s metalworking prowess and the remarkable art and artefacts brought to the city by the artist and writer, John Ruskin.

The Kelham Island Museum shows Sheffield’s industrial history. The museum is free.

It celebrates 300 years of Sheffield making history. Explore the story of making in the city, from master craftsmen to mass production. You can learn about:

  • Steel-making

  • Old machines

  • How Sheffield helped change the world

It is great for families and visitors.

These two theatres are next to each other in the city centre. You can watch:

  • Plays

  • Shows

  • Music events

The Crucible also hosts the World Snooker Championship every year.

Weston Park Museum is a free museum. It tells the stories of Sheffield and its people, from prehistory to present day.

Originally opened in 1875, Weston Park Museum has found lifelong fans in younger visitors and grown-ups alike for nearly 150 years.

It has displays about:

  • Animals and nature

  • People and cultures

It is a good place for families and children.

The Tropical Butterfly House can be located just outside of Sheffield. You can see:

  • Butterflies

  • Birds

  • Meerkats

  • Farm animals

It is a popular choice for families.

Meadowhall is one of the biggest shopping centres in the UK. It has:

  • Cinema

  • Activities

Step into the past and explore the industry that shaped Sheffield at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. Immerse yourself in life at home and at work at this rural scythe and steelworks dating back to the 1700s, just a 10 minute walk from Millhouses Park and Ecclesall Woods.
