Sexual Health

Looking after your sexual health is an important part of staying well. Good sexual health helps protect you from infections, unplanned pregnancy and other health problems.

Getting regular check-ups, using protection like condoms, and talking openly with partners can help keep you safe.

If you are worried or need advice, there are free and confidential services in Sheffield that can help you.

What can we help you with?

You can get free contraception from Sexual Health Sheffield, your GP (doctor), or some pharmacies.

Sexual Health Sheffield can give you advice and provide emergency contraception, the pill, the coil, and the implant.

Visit the Sexual Health Sheffield website to learn more about their contraception services.

You can book an appointment for an STI check, treatment, or contraception by calling Sexual Health Sheffield by calling 0114 226 8888.

Address:
Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Glossop Road, S10 2JF

Opening times:

  • Monday–Thursday: 8:30am–7pm
  • Friday: 8:30am–5pm

If you find it hard to get an appointment, you can also ask your GP (doctor) for help.

When you arrive, the receptionist will ask for your name and a few details. Then they will ask you to sit and wait until your name is called.

If you feel uncomfortable, you can ask to talk somewhere more private. You can also tell the receptionist that you would rather give your details to the doctor or nurse instead.

You can bring someone you trust to your appointment.

You will only need an examination if you have symptoms of an infection.

If you are attending a sexual health screen for possible infections, you will be asked for a urine sample or vaginal swab, a blood sample and maybe an oral and/or anal swab dependent on the type of sex you have. But you are in control of the situation and only samples you consent to give will be taken. If swabs are needed, you may be able to take them yourself.

If you need an interpreter for your appointment, the clinic can arrange one for you. This is free. They will need a few days to organise it.

If you want, you can also bring a friend or family member who speaks English.

In an emergency, a telephone interpreter can be used.

Sexual Health Sheffield has a portable loop which you can request for use during your consultation. Please speak to a receptionist to organise this.
